Watching a sermon of Francis Chan I was inspired to write about loving God. Do we really know what it means to love God? God gave us the ultimate sacrifice, His Son. There is no greater love than this. Most of the time when you accept Christ in your life, you hear the gospel before you accept Him. So you get to realize that He laid down His life for you, and now you are free, right? Except that we stand there and don’t pick up our cross. To be honest I don’t think we know what it means to love our Savior. We always get to know what He did to show us His love, but we often don’t know what it means to love Him back.
I talked about this scripture in a previous post, “To live is Christ, to die is gain”. Do we really get this? It means that we die, we surrender our lives, to follow Him. We should be so totally in love with God the Father that giving it all up is the least we can do. There is a scary thought to this, and that is that this short bracket of time on earth is going to be the only place and time where we can surrender to show our love for Him. I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely want to stand at the gates of Heaven and be welcomed with words, “You are my beloved daughter, and I am well pleased with you”. This would be music to my soul. I want to be the best I can be and do the best I can do so that when I step into Heaven I know I have done the best I could’ve done. The last thing I want to do is to condemn you, but I would rather want you to re-think how you love your Father. We should be so passionately in love with God that these things are joyful sacrifices. We should feel like there is not enough to give back for what He gave us. The amazing thing is that God doesn’t expect us to do all of these things, but I think we should realize that love is not a feeling, but it is a act. It is a decision you make and one that you show. If God is the number one in your life, if you love Him with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind, would you not want to give as much as you possibly can. It just makes sense. There are many people who follow Christ because they gain something from it, the blessing, the covering or the reward of heaven. The fact that we get to have access to God and to His love is beautiful enough. You should not be in it to receive, but to surrender with a thankful heart, for what He has done for you. In the book of Philippians Paul talks about the fact that he would like to go to heaven and be with his heavenly Father. Then he realizes that this is his only chance to show his fruitful labor. This is his only chance to sacrifice what he has. We will never be able to sacrifice enough, but let’s push forward to do the best that we can do. Refresh our lives Lord, open our eyes so that we can see Your great love.
*Glory to His name for the greatest sacrifice.
After yesterday’s blog post, I went on a creative splurge, and completely jumped outside of my skin about God’s amazing creation. I am sorry readers, but as a creative person I can’t just read Genesis 1, 2 and 3 and not lose it a little. After reading it the first time, I had a second where I just caught my breath and then went on a roll, reading it over and over and over again. I just could not wrap my mind around God’s abilities, can I even say that God has abilities. He has like supernaturalamazinglycoolability. We should re-invent a word that describes God creativity, or maybe not, for not even a word could come to how great He is.
So after reading the scriptures a few times, I stood there thinking so many things: how big God is, how wonderful he created everything, how He made man from dust and designed every single bird and insect. Just have a moment and think about this, there are over a million different species of insects in the world…a million! God created each and every one of them in a moments time. There is something that really intrigued me for when God created light He did not talk about the sun, later in Genesis 1:16 He talks about creating the sun and the moon. So this is something, the sun is not the light God talked about He talked about a different light. I don’t have a definite answer to this question, but I think God created His glory light. In revelation they talk about God’s glorious light. Revelation 21:23, “And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. I can’t even imagine this, there is no sun, but it’s light, a different light a glorious light, brightening the earth. I read these scriptures and I kind of lose it, don’t you? I mean there was nothing, just God and water, and then all that we see today He created…in six days. There is no artist I know of, who made a brilliant piece of artwork that only took them six days. Or what about the fact that you can’t even travel the whole world and see every single place in that amount of time. Does this not show us how big God is and how small we are. Sometimes we think God can’t handle our little problem, when we should realize how big He is and how tiny we are.
God is just so incredible and I can’t stop saying it, I can’t stop writing about it. He made the whole earth that alone is unbelievable, but it surely doesn’t stop there, that is only how this incredible real story starts, for the deeper you read into this story the more magnificent He becomes. And the more you start to see that this story is a reality, the more you are moved. Do you know what is so wonderful, is that when you read this story you don’t only see the words, you start feeling the words, they start coming to life. God’s word is life it is truth and it is more than capable to move you, change you and make you a different person.
*Glory to His name for giving us the guidance of the Word.
God’s Kingdom purpose. This is what we should live for. To multiply His Kingdom. I am always writing about the stuff God lays on my heart. These are things I dwell on and most of the time I struggle with. I feel very strongly about being unique and building your own creative personality, but sometimes we focus so much on these things and completely lose track of the Kingdom purpose. I have reached this point in my life a few times, where I am on such a train towards something so creative and then before I can even start God stops me in my tracks and points out very clearly that I am following my idea and not His. A lot of people end up in an extremely bad space, because when they followed their own idea it lead them into things they could not resist.Money is probably the thing we often struggle with and when we have too much and become obsessed with it we completely lose sight of God and become mammon worshipers. This is why it is so important to listen to God’s voice and be obedient for if we follow our way, we might end up in a dark place where getting out almost feels impossible.
Maybe I am the only one feeling this way, but I am glad to share my thoughts and hopefully inspire someone to think differently about it. This is mostly aimed at creative people, but is applicable to everyone. If you have an amazing idea and you are running at such a speed towards something, just stop for a moment and ask God if you are running in His direction. We get so caught up in building our own wealth and fame that we forget the reason why were born. To expand God’s Kingdom, to make sure we are inspiring people to think differently. And to build our lives based on His plan for us. I am trying to say that if what you are doing somehow feels to much of you and to little God, stop and question if your are going in the right direction. When God gives you this wonderful plan and you feel so extremely excited just always remind yourself that it’s God doing all these amazing things you are just a vessel and that all the ideas and plans that’s so remarkable is not your ideas, but His. To make this statement basic, be obedient to God and always be humble in the astonishing things you do, for it is not you but Him.
Matthew 6:33. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
*Glory to God for His incredible creative mind.
Conform. So let’s me honest here this is probably something you do every day, most of the time you don’t even realize you are doing it. And you could not care less that you are doing it. I have very strong views around it, and I am surely not shy in sharing them. For I am not forcing you to believe them, but I am definitely going to make you think about it. Sacrificial love. We would never know the meaning of this, only God knows what it really means to sacrifice. Why am I making this statement, because of the simple act of conforming. When you accept Christ in your life, you sacrifice your life to gain Him. So you leave what you have followed and pick up what He stands for, His word and His character. When we conform, we are not choosing His lifestyle, but we are choosing the lifestyle the world has created for us. Then your sacrifice is not giving your whole life, but only the pieces that fits into your current lifestyle. Do you know what is so beautiful about God is that when what we give seems so useless, He still sees it as beautiful and He’s love is still the same if you give it all or if you don’t.
So what are we conforming to, I can go down a never ending list of things, but the few things that have really caught my attention among Christians are music, television and books. Like I have said the list is never ending, but why these three things are so enticing to me is that it is what we feed ourselves with most of the time. You’re most likely thinking why you are conforming, well the fact that we listen to music that sings about sorrows, failed relationships, murder, sex and drugs are most surely not from God. When you listen to this music, sing along to it and buy the Cd you are approving of it. So that means you are sinning, you are approving of a lifestyle that is not portraying God. The same goes with watching television. The shows or movies you watch are they pure and holy. Watching a scene where they blaspheme or a scene where a guy and girl , that is not married, walks into a room and shuts the door, do you continue watching simply because it’s not explicit. God does definitely not approve of sex before marriage. Same with books, when you read books where they talk about the power you have when you use magic or the fact that the story portrays magic as good, you again are agreeing to the fact that doing this is right. For I do not believe that reading about these things, but teaching somebody that doing magic is wrong, is the right answer. How can you feed yourself with these words, but you teach differently.
So friends we have conformed to the worlds standards, the world did not mark these things as satanic, but we should look at what the message is that the person is giving, if it’s good, then why not, if it’s contrasting to who God is then why are you watching or listening it. I still fail doing all of these things right, for I am only human and so are you, but I press on to become just like God even if I fail I will keep on laying things down and asking myself if what I am doing and what I am portraying is a reflection of who God really is.
Philippians 3: 12-14
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
* Glory to God for His perfect example.
