This is something we tend to forget to do when we give our life to Christ. There is so much power in this, and we should take it seriously. Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” When we renew our mind we replace what we had with who God is and what He would do.  You can’t decide where you want to accept change and where not, but it is renewing ALL of who you are. I am not saying that you should change your personality, but you should change your way of thinking and reacting. What is so beautiful about this is that when you truly have renewed your mind, hearing God’s voice and following His will becomes easy. We don’t have to wait for God to come and show us the way, but rather we allow God to move through us and we then see the way.

The scripture I just talked about explains renewing your mind very clearly. It says that we should not conform to the pattern of this world. What does that mean? It is to not be normal, to not follow the average Jo, but to strive to become just like Christ. Your way of thinking and reacting should be obvious to who you follow. Curry Blake told a story of how he was in his hotel room and when he walked past the television he saw a woman weeping in the courtroom. His immediate reaction was to put his hand out and pray for her. After he prayed he realized that this TV show was recorded and that it was not running live. At that moment he felt really stupid and then the Lord spoke to him and said that he should not be ashamed for his mind has been renewed. Why is that? Instead of thinking about what the person’s reaction would be, or even the fact that the show is recorded, Curry reacted in a Godly way. His reflex was to pray for this woman because she was weeping. That story inspired me so much, because we should not always think ourselves into what the reaction would be, but instead react towards the problem. Curry’s mind was renewed because he reacted straight from God’s heart. That is renewal of the mind, we start thinking like Christ, which will cause us to react like Christ. Another scripture that also explains this beautifully is Colossians 3:10, “Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like  Him.”  This takes practice and you have to focus on the fact that your ways should be different, have you noticed that the scripture says that “as you learn to know your Creator”, the more you get to know Christ and read the Bible the better understanding you will have on how to react towards things. This definitely motivates me to read my Bible more and build my relationship with Christ. The one thing I can remember of when I gave my life to Christ, is the fact that I gave my LIFE to Him. This indicates that you put your ways and will down and you pick His will and ways up. Let’s strive to become just like Christ and let that change our way of thinking and reacting, causing us to renew our minds.

* Glory to His name for His brilliance.
