The rain, I just love it. The sound it makes, the smell it creates and the feeling it breeds to be close to someone. There is so much significance in the rain and it reminds me of so many things. The first thing is God, my Mom always told me as a child that when it rains Jesus is watering His garden. And when the thunder struck, He is busy moving around the furniture. I can just imagine this small little girl asking her mother, “Mommy is Jesus watering His garden again”. The thunder and lighting is always the best part. The sound is so empowering and it reminds me of the fact that God is in control, He is the maker and creator of the heavens and earth. I can remember the day when I woke up at five in the morning, I could not sleep and decided to go sit in our living room and watch the lighting. It was so beautiful, it ran across the horizon, it almost felt like they were chasing each other. This mighty strength coming down from the heavens, is just so unreal, it’s so enticing.

The other thing that also comes to mind, is that rain was what first destroyed the earth, when Noah built the ark and God destroyed the rest of the earth, except for Noah and His family.Because of Noah’s obedience they were spared and Noah saw God’s power. His faithfulness rained down. So the rain also reminds me of obedience. We should be obedient to God for we know God is the core and center of love, but He is also God and we have to fear Him, we have to know and understand the power God has and can use if He desires to. Another thing I think about when it rains is God’s heart and that it is broken when He is rejected and that it is broken when He sees another soul that has been lost. It reminds me of all the tears God has shed for us. His heart is shattered when He sees another one of His children rejecting Him. Just imagine that feeling your father must have when you don’t want anything to do with him, I am sure my father will be heartbroken. That is why God never gives up on us He will fight until the very end. So back to the rain, the song that Micheal W Smith sings, “Let it rain”, is so compelling. For to me that song means that we desire to see and feel His presence we want to get to know Him and hear His voice. It’s like a desperate call to see His face.

The Lord reigns let the earth be glad, let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him, righteousness and justice are the foundation of His thrown. Fire goes before Him and consumes His foes on every side His lightning lights up the world, the earth sees and trembles, the mountains melt like wax before the Lord. Before the Lord of all the earth the heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

So I hope the next time you feel, see or hear the rain you will think differently about it.

*Glory to His name for the beautiful rain.
